Wool is wonderfully low-maintenance thanks to its natural self-cleaning properties. The fibres contain natural oils and proteins that repel dirt, resist moisture, and neutralize odours. Wool is also naturally antimicrobial — its lanolin content helps prevent the growth of bacteria, mould, and mildew.

To keep your bedding fresh, simply air it out on the line regularly on a dry, breezy day. The natural UV rays of the sun are antibacterial.  If needed, spot clean gently using mild detergent and cold water. Our wool duvets and pillows are not machine washable, as washing can cause the wool to felt or shrink. Always follow the care label instructions, and if deep cleaning is ever required, take your item to a professional dry cleaner for a specialist wool wash.

Because wool is a natural fibre, it may have a light lanolin scent at first — similar to the smell of clean wool or leather. This fades after airing. Lanolin is the natural oil in wool, often used in skincare products for its gentle properties. If the smell displeases you, air out the bedding on the line on a dry breezy day. The smell does fade after airing and over time.

Wool is naturally resilient and springy, so it holds its shape far better than synthetic fillings. Wool naturally settles a little during the first six months of use — this is completely normal and part of the natural bedding process. A quick fluff or gentle shake will help restore its loft or a 2 minute spin in a cool tumble dryer (less than 40 degrees). With regular airing and care, your wool pillow will stay supportive and comfortable for years.

With proper care, wool bedding is built to last. A high-quality wool duvet can easily last 10-20 years or more, while pillows typically last 3–5 years or longer, depending on use. To extend their life, use a natural pillow protector, air your bedding regularly, and fluff it up to keep the wool evenly distributed. Wool’s natural resilience means it bounces back to shape and maintains its comfort and structure far longer than synthetic alternatives.

Not at all! Wool is a temperature-regulating fibre — it keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. Unlike synthetic fillings, wool breathes — it wicks away moisture and allows air to circulate, so you stay comfortable all night without overheating, promoting deeper, more restful sleep all year round. That’s why wool bedding works beautifully in every season

Many customers find our wool pillows provide excellent support for easing neck and shoulder tension. Because wool is naturally resilient and shape-retaining, it gently cushions the head and neck while keeping proper alignment. Choosing the right firmness level is key — firm pillows offer more structured support for side sleepers, while medium or soft options suit back or stomach sleepers who prefer a lower profile.

Wool’s breathable, temperature-regulating qualities also help promote deeper, more restful sleep — which can further reduce stiffness or discomfort over time.

It’s actually a common myth that people are allergic to wool. In most cases, reactions come from the coarseness of wool fibres when worn directly against the skin — not from the wool itself. That’s not an issue with our bedding, as the wool filling is completely enclosed within a smooth 220-thread-count organic cotton cover, so it never comes into direct contact with your skin.

Wool is also naturally hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant, and antimicrobial, making it an excellent choice for people with allergies or sensitive skin.

Yes, wool bedding can be especially helpful for those with sinus issues. Wool is naturally hypoallergenic and resists dust mites, mould, and bacteria — all common triggers for sinus discomfort. Its ability to breathe and regulate temperature also helps reduce overheating and moisture build-up, creating a cleaner, drier sleeping environment that supports easier breathing.

Many people with sinus sensitivities find they sleep more comfortably and wake up feeling clearer with pure wool bedding.

Yes. Wool bedding can be an excellent choice for people with asthma. Wool is naturally hypoallergenic and resists dust mites, mould, and mildew — some of the most common asthma triggers. Its breathable fibres help regulate temperature and wick away moisture, keeping your sleep environment clean, dry, and fresh.

Because our wool filling is enclosed in a smooth 220-thread-count organic cotton cover, it doesn’t irritate the skin or airways, making it a healthier, more comfortable option for restful sleep.

Not at all — in fact, wool can really help. Wool is a natural temperature regulator, meaning it keeps you warm when it’s cool and cool when it’s warm. It allows air to circulate and wicks away moisture from the body, helping to prevent that hot, clammy feeling during the night.

Many women going through menopause find that wool bedding helps reduce night sweats and overheating, allowing for a cooler, drier, and more restful sleep.

Wool bedding offers a range of natural health benefits that help you sleep better and feel better:

  • Regulates temperature: Wool keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer, helping your body maintain a comfortable, steady temperature all night.

  • Improves sleep quality: By reducing overheating and moisture build-up, wool helps promote deeper, more restful sleep.

  • Hypoallergenic: Wool naturally resists dust mites, mould, and bacteria — perfect for allergy or asthma sufferers.

  • Breathable and moisture-wicking: Wool draws moisture away from the body, keeping your bedding dry and fresh.

  • Chemical-free comfort: Our bedding is made from 100% pure Irish wool encased in certified organic cotton — a completely natural, non-toxic sleep environment.

Many customers say they wake up feeling more refreshed, better rested, and free from the discomforts they experienced with synthetic bedding.

Wool is one of the most sustainable bedding materials you can choose. It’s renewable, biodegradable, and long-lasting, making it a truly eco-friendly alternative to synthetic fibres.

  • 100% Natural & Renewable: Wool comes from sheep that are shorn annually — no harm done, and it grows back every year.

  • Biodegradable: Unlike synthetic fibres, wool naturally decomposes, releasing valuable nutrients back into the soil instead of creating waste or microplastics.

  • Long-lasting: Wool bedding is incredibly durable, meaning fewer replacements and less waste over time.

  • Low-impact production: Our wool is 100% Irish and fully traceable, supporting local farmers.

  • Plastic-free comfort: Encased in certified organic cotton, our bedding is free from harmful chemicals, plastics, and synthetics.

Choosing wool means choosing a cleaner, more sustainable sleep — good for you and gentle on the planet.

All of our wool is 100% Irish and fully traceable, sourced directly from family farms across Ireland that we know and trust. We work closely with a select group of Irish farmers who share our commitment to quality, animal welfare, and sustainable farming.

You can meet our suppliers — nine dedicated farmers from across the country — listed proudly on our website. Their care and expertise ensure only the finest Irish wool goes into every Dooleys Wool product.

Our wool is washed and scoured in Bradford, England, a region long known for its world-class wool processing expertise. Unfortunately, there are currently no commercial washing or scouring facilities in Ireland capable of handling the volumes of wool we require.

Not at all. Shearing is a completely natural and necessary part of caring for sheep. Sheep naturally grow a thick fleece that must be removed each year for their health and comfort — otherwise they can overheat, become tangled, or attract pests.

All the farmers we work with follow high standards of animal welfare and are part of a welfare scheme, ensuring their flocks are treated with care and respect. Shearing is carried out gently by skilled professionals who make the process quick and stress-free for the animals.

Our wool comes only from trusted Irish farmers, whose focus is on the wellbeing of their sheep and the quality of their wool — both of which go hand in hand.

Yes. Our packaging is recyclable and we use minimal plastics. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do — from the farms we work with to the materials and packaging we choose.

The difference lies in the amount of wool filling — and the level of support each provides.

  • Soft pillows have less wool (500–600g)  and measure roughly 11–12cm in depth (unpressed). They are very soft and low, ideal for those who prefer a gentle pillow or typically use a single, low one, offering a lower profile that’s perfect for front or back sleepers who prefer a light, cushioned feel.

  • Medium pillows are filled with about 600–700g of wool and measure 13–14cm in depth, this option offers balanced comfort and support but still leans slightly towards the firmer side — ideal for most sleepers and sleeping positions.

  • Firm pillows are our densest option, with 800–900g of wool and a height of 15–16cm. It provides excellent loft and structure, ideal for side sleepers or those who usually sleep with two pillows or prefer more neck support.

All of our pillows are filled with 100% pure Irish wool, so whichever you choose, you’ll enjoy breathable comfort and natural temperature regulation through the night.

Our duvets come in three weight options so you can choose the perfect warmth for every season:

  • Summer Duvet: Light and breathable, with a tog rating of 4.5–7.5 — ideal for warmer months or those who prefer a cooler sleep.

  • All Season Duvet: Medium weight, with a tog of 7.5–10.5 — perfect for year-round comfort in most homes.

  • Winter Duvet: Cosy and warm, with a tog of 10.5–13.5 — designed to keep you snug through the coldest months.

All our duvets are filled with 100% pure Irish wool, which naturally regulates temperature, helping you stay comfortable all night long.

Our wool mattress toppers are designed with strong elastic corner straps that easily secure around each corner of your mattress. The straps hold the topper firmly in place, preventing it from shifting during the night. Simply stretch the straps over the corners of your mattress — it’s quick, neat, and ensures your topper stays perfectly positioned for a comfortable night’s sleep.

If your Super King cover seems not to fit, don’t worry — it’s likely just the way the duvet is positioned. Our Super King wool duvets are designed with channels (the stitched lines) running across the bed, rather than from top to bottom like standard duvets. Simply rotate your duvet 90 degrees, and it should fit perfectly inside your cover!

All our bedding covers are made from 100% cotton woven to a smooth 220-thread count. Our cotton is GOTS-certified (Global Organic Textile Standard), meaning it meets the highest standards for organic fibre production, environmental care, and social responsibility.

The result is a soft, breathable, and natural fabric that perfectly complements our 100% pure Irish wool filling — keeping your sleep environment healthy and chemical-free.
